Review by Dylan Lloyd & Staff
The new song “I Feel Like I’m Missing” by The Independent Sound is certainly a dance-worthy track of the summer. The crisp high-end and the thumping low-end make this track sound very present, clear, and energetic. This song begins with a clean guitar repetition that gives the recording a feeling of floating atop the pumping dance beat. The vocals are very upfront and maintain the focal point, but also have a large amount of depth with the added effect choices showcasing excellent production work.
The lyrics of “I Feel Like I’m Missing” are mostly left up to interpretation by the listener, but there are summer themes that warm up the song and exude the feeling of good times in the sun. Lines Like “Summertime in the city” and “Summer girls all look pretty” definitely help convey that feeling of happiness. Although these lyrics are about beautiful things they experience in the summer, there are also contrasting lyrics that describe feelings of emptiness that they have from missing family members. This is especially felt with the recurring lyric lines “I just feel like I’m missing my mother, I just feel like I’m missing my brother, I just feel like I’m missing my father. Always”.
"I Feel Like I'm Missing" gives the listener a great danceable beat that is paired with catchy lyrics, making it a perfect song for any summer playlist. Highlights include the evolving drum beat that brings in new elements throughout the song that add momentum to this track and the syncopated guitar part that layers in perfectly with the rhythms of the drums. Any listener will have a tough time not moving and grooving along to the beat of “I Feel Like I’m Missing” by The Independent Sound.
