Review by Dylan Lloyd & Staff
“Plain Sight” by Robert Flynn featuring Brian “Red” Moore is a song that perfectly combines classic rock sounds with some folk rock elements as well. The vocals are sung in a way that has them sitting right in the mix of the band on this track. The clean guitar with delay effect sounds like something right from a classic U2 song and it propels the motion of this song forward. The piano gives this song that folk rock sound and provides some harmonic interplay happening with the guitar.
Lyrically this song talks about the challenges of consoling a friend who is dealing with difficulties presented by life. Lyric lines such as, “Why don’t you just catch that train, Grab a seat and ease the pain”, and “Just figure out which road you’re on.” are words of gentle advice. While “Find it hard to sleep at night, You forgot to kill the lights” show empathy. Although these lyrics focus on a deeper subject matter, they are both told and sung in a way that eases the listener as if they are being comforted by one of their own friends. This approach makes "Plain Sight" easy to listen to and relate to.
"Plain Sight" has great production that fills up the stereo image it creates with all of the instrumental elements happening throughout this song. Both the vocal reverb and the guitar delay build out the wide stereo picture of this recording. The rhythm section is also noteworthy as it really grooves well especially during the ending instrumental outro where the band plays out the groove of this song.
“Plain Sight” by Robert Flynn featuring Brian “Red” Moore is an anthemic sounding rock tune that is extremely pleasing to listen to with a message that feels like you found a friend.
